First Concert Evaluation/Reflection (Orchestra)

First Concert Evaluation/Reflection

For this concert, we played two songs, Illumination and After the Rain.

In both songs, I think we did fairly well creating nice, solid tone. Throughout the majority of the songs, our tone was perfect, but there were a few areas where we lacked just a tiny bit. Our rhythm was alright, although I think we should have tried to listen to each other so we wouldn't have been rushing or unstable in the first place. Now, about intonation. Most of the notes were not in tune, and some were so bad that I had to label them as "flincher" notes. Flincher notes are the ones that make you cringe and make a face because they sound so horrible. But there were definitely pitches that we did get almost perfectly, so we just need to work on hitting every note exactly. In both songs, I feel like we weren't really getting into the music and backing the music up with emotion and meaning. I think if we had put more effort into phrasing and articulation we would have sounded very cool.

For the next concert I think we should work on really listening to each other as an entire, enjoined orchestra, not as individuals who happen to be playing their parts at the same time. In doing this, our tone quality, rhythm, intonation, and articulation will improve.
